Obituary

Donald L. Berger, 73, died May 27, 2011, at Mennonite Friendship Manor, South Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Conway Springs, Kansas, to Guy and Edith (Small) Berger. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1956. Donald was a retired Battalion Chief of Hutchinson Fire Department and founder and President of Ace Fire Extinguisher Company. He was a former member of Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. and A.M., Loyal Order of Moose #982, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2550, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361 and Shriners.

On Feb. 19, 1963, he married Barbara Barker in Colorado Springs, Colo. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Kent Berger and wife Tama and Christopher Berger and wife Needia; two daughters, Kimmie Orem and Kathy Poole, all of Hutchinson; a brother, Jerry Berger and wife Sherry, Dover, Arkansas; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd and two sisters, Evelyn and Alberta Berger.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, with Steve Blazer officiating. Graveside service will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastor Willard Stafford officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.
