Donald Ray 'Bud' Schardein, 89, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017. He was born November 4, 1928, the son of Frank C. and Edna B. (Waddle) Schardein. He was a 1946 graduate of Partridge High School. He was an Army veteran, where he was taught audio visual education which served him the rest of his life. He was owner and operator of Audio Visual Service, Hutchinson. Bud also was a farmer and stockman at his family's farm. His morning routine started at McDonalds, South Hutchinson, and 4th Avenue, then noon, and maybe evening. He had a passion for square dancing, winning a national award with his partner, Mary Belle Montgomery. Bud was always interested in what was going on with who he was talking to, which was extended with his generosity toward others.
He is survived by: sister, Joan Ulmer of Newton, Kansas; companion, Mary Belle Montgomery of Hutchinson; and his nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Charles William and Leota Grace Schardein; and brother-in-law, Harvey Ulmer, Jr.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Partridge Cemetery with Keith A. Dellenbach presiding. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. Visitation and a light lunch will follow the burial at Abbyville Community Church, 201 W. G, Abbyville. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
