Don W. Clark, 91, of Hutchinson, died Aug. 31, 2011, at Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson.
He was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Opine, Montana, the son of Joseph and Sylvia Field Clark.
Don's family moved back to Reno Co. from Montana when Don was 10 years old, and Don grew up on the family farm near Kingman. Don attended school in Kingman and immediately entered the military. He retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Don was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in France in World War II. He was a member of Lysle Rishel Post #68 of the American Legion.
Don married Virginia L. Field on Feb. 2, 1942, in Leesville, Louisiana. She died Dec. 21, 1993.
Survivors include: two sons, Ron Clark and wife Mary Anne, Council Grove, and Phil Clark and wife Leora, Hutchinson; two daughters, Debby Gruver and husband, Jim, Cheney, and Gayle Denny, Hutchinson; a niece, Pat Miracle and husband, Gene, Wichita; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leland Clark, and a son-in-law, Ronald Denny in 2010.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Willard Stafford presiding. Burial will be at Lone Star Cemetery, Pretty Prairie. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley, Kansas. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, all at Elliott Mortuary.
