Donald E. Cordill, 89, of Hutchinson, formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, died March 24, 2012, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. Don was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Kansas City, the son of Benjamin Lorance and Blanche Walker Cordill. Don graduated from Wyandotte High School and from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Don retired from the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier after 35-plus years of service. After retirement, he worked as a courier for Home State Bank in Kansas City. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, and was an avid Kansas City Royals and K.U. fan.
Don married J. Alice Kieffaber on Sept. 8, 1956, in Kansas City. She died April 16, 1990.
Survivors include: a daughter, Donna Buehler and husband Dr. Mark, Hutchinson; a brother, William "Bill" Cordill, Butler, Mo.; three grandchildren, Tina J. Morris and husband Jay, Hutchinson, Harold E. Jones, III and wife Crystal, Rockwall, Texas, and Thomas J. Jones and wife Ginger, Newton; and seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Kelsey, Kaleb, Emily, Brittany, Harrison, and Bryce.
Don was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Trovinger; and three brothers, Dr. Daniel Cordill, Forrest Cordill, and Benjamin Cordill, Jr.
A register book may be signed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March, 31, 2012, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kansas City. The family will greet friends on Friday, March 30, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home.
