Donald Dale Derr, 83, died Oct. 15, 2013, at Hospice House. He was born July 18, 1930, in Hutchinson, to Glen Andrew and Alice Rosetta Shatto Derr.
Donald graduated Hutchinson High School in 1948, Hutchinson Community College in 1956, and then from Kansas State University in 1959. He was an industrial engineer retiring in July of 1992, from Rockwell International. He was also a Corporal in the United States Army and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Atchison, Kan.
On Oct. 13, 1956, he married Iola Marie Swank in Hutchinson. She died April 22, 2011.
Survivors include: a son, James G. Derr and wife Tina of Hutchinson; daughter, Debby McNaughton and husband Steve of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Michael Derr and wife Veronica of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Thomas McCarthy of Hutchinson, Meghan McCarthy of Manhattan, Colleen McCarthy of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Aubree, Jasmine, Michael, and Xavier Derr; and a sister, Betty Brodersen of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Donald David Derr; sisters, Claire Wilson, Pat Miller, Della Leavitt, and Marjorie Derr.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Dennis Miller presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Military Honors conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
