Donald D. “Don” Adams, 86, died May 17, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born November 7, 1939, in Clinton, MO, the only child of Dee Donald and Daryl (Davis) Adams.
Don graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1957; and earned his bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor degree from University of Kansas, graduating in 1964. He was a second-generation member of Phi Gamma Delta. For over 45 years, Don worked at First National Bank, Hutchinson and was the Senior Vice President and Trust Officer, retiring on May 7, 2013. He was a USD 308 School Board Member for three terms and served as the school board president twice. Don was also involved with the Hutchinson Community College Endowment Board and Kansas Children’s Service League Board. He also volunteered at Hutchinson Hospital. Don enjoyed playing bridge with his friends, working in his yard and reading. Don loved to attend his children’s school activities and sporting events, travel (especially to Colorado), and spend time with his family. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson.
On September 1, 1962, he married Ann Marie Wees, at Village Presbyterian, Prairie Village, KS. They had met on a blind date while attending KU.
Don is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Ann Adams of Hutchinson; children, Allison (Scott Bendrick) Adams of Overland Park, Scott (Lisa) Adams of Gower, MO; granddaughters, Jonna, Tulia, and Cheyenne; grandsons, Noah and Austin; brother-in-law, William “Bill” Wees of Montreal, Canada; and sister-in-law, Beth Wees of New York, NY.
He was preceded in death by: his parents and brother-in-law, J. Dustin Wees.
Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Dr., with Father Ted Blakley officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Grace Episcopal Church Columbarium. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Wednesday, until the day of the service at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to KU Endowment (please make the check payable to KU Endowment, with Donald Adams in the memo line) or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
