Donald E. "Don" Butts, 80, died January 4, 2014, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1933, in Topeka, to Clark D. and Desda Mona (Peel) Butts. Don graduated from Topeka High School in 1951. He was owner and operator of Awards Plus in Hutchinson. Don was an ASA Umpire. He played for the Dodgers and in Montreal, Canada, took a foul tip on his elbow that ended his baseball career.

On May 13, 1982, he married Evelyn Walters in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: children, Allen Butts and wife Donna of Puyallup, Wash., Elaine Boese and husband Rick of Marysville, Lisa Webster and husband Brian of Hutchinson, Kara Walters of Lawrence, Lorna Wyer and husband Mike of Hutchinson, and Brad Walters of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Bill Butts; and sons, Chuck Butts and Terry Walters.

Cremation will take place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Victor Calcote officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family to receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Donald E. Butts Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
