Obituary

Donald Cecil Frederick, 93, died Dec. 5, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Burrton, the son of Forrest and Louise Frederick. When he was two, his family moved to a farm near Hutchinson, where he grew up. He attended Kent Grade School and graduated from Hutchinson High School.

He married Verla Boyer on May 25, 1941, in Hutchinson. Together they raised four children and dairy farmed. After their divorce in 1981, he returned to the farm that had been his parents'. He married Loma McCleave in Marion on Aug. 6, 1982. They raised beef and cattle and enjoyed gardening and entertaining their extended family on the farm.

Don was a corrections officer at Kansas State Industrial Reformatory from 1968-1981. He enjoyed golfing, riding his motorcycle, and his many friends and neighbors. He always worked hard to provide a good education for his children. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Most recently, he had been a resident at Mennonite Manor.

Survivors include: children, Jeff and Jan Frederick, San Diego, Calif., Diane Rose, Bemidji, Minn., Tony and Janis Frederick, Muncie, Ind., Scott and Caroline Frederick, New York, N.Y., Pam and Norm Walker, Santa Fe, N.M., Randy and Vicki McCleave and Pat and Tammy McCleave, Wichita; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Darlene; son-in-law, Richard Rose and two grandchildren, Jesse Rose and Jeremiah Schurr.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence, with Rev. Jim Rhaesa presiding. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, or friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today through Saturday. Cremation has taken place.
