Donald Lee Gantz, 90, formerly of Pratt, died December 1, 2015, at Heritage Ridge Retirement Community, Bellevue, Nebraska. He was born June 27, 1925, to Frank and Sylvia (Moore) Gantz in the Huntsville community in Reno County, Kansas.
He attended Huntsville Country Grade School and graduated from Plevna High School in 1943. Don was drafted into the Navy and served on the USS Wedderburn until the end of World War II. He started working for Northern Natural Gas Company at the Bushton, Kansas, plant in 1952. Don transferred to the Cunningham Underground Storage Plant in 1979 and retired in 1986. He was of the Lutheran faith.
On March 6, 1970, he married Phyllis (Easley) Viles in Lyons.
Don is survived by: his wife of the home; son, Dwight (Becky Schechter) of Lyons; daughter, Janet Hunke (David) of Arlington, Virginia; son, Bob Viles (Susan) of Woodward, Oklahoma; daughters, Rhonda Berlowitz (Dan) and Dana Thomas (John), both of Bellevue, Nebraska. Don was Grandpa to 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchilden.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Dorothy Gantz and Joyce Willis; brother, Richard Gantz; son, Jeffrey; daughter-in-law, Sherry Viles; and grandson, John Ryan.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Huntsville Cemetery, with Rodney Willis officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family to receive friends from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
