Obituary

Donald E. Hudson, 79, passed away May 31, 2013, at Mennonite Friendship Retirement Communities. He was born July 19, 1933, in Macksville, KS, the second child of Lee and Helen (Stromet) Hudson. He attended Livingston Grade School and Macksville High School. Donald was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a building host for 4 1/2 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pratt, a Scottish Rite 32°, and Midian Shrine of Wichita where he was in the yellow mustang unit driving in parades.

Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of the Veteran Affairs. He worked for Betts Baking Company for 14 years and was self-employed in the trucking business for 20 years until he retired. After he retired he enjoyed woodworking.

On April 21, 1951, he married Barbara Joan O'Dell in Clayton, New Mexico. She died November 1, 2001.

He is survived by: daughter, Ronda Hicks; grandson, Albert Hicks III; granddaughter, Dawn Hicks, all of Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren, Camille, Kyla, Taiya, Aiden; brothers, Robert Hudson and wife Peggy of Shreveport, La., Everett Hudson and wife Jo of St. John; sister, Esther Burris and husband John of Derby; beloved dog, Annie; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Mark Conard officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County, or the First United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, Ks 67501.
