Obituary

Donald Lee Smith, 77, died March 11, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1929, in Hutchinson, the son of Henry and Rosa Sayers Smith. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, he had worked for Morton Salt, Mega Manufacturing, KSIR, and Eaton Corp. for 23 years, retiring in 1992.

He belonged to First Baptist Church, Hutchinson. He also was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, NRA, AA 82nd Airborne Paratroopers from Avenue A school. He was a Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War in the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers.

On Oct. 25, 1965, he married Carole Ann Falk in Alva, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Doren, Virginia, David, North Carolina, Thomas, Hutchinson and Bill, Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur, Harry, Frank, Bert and Bobbie Smith; and five sisters, Christine, Pauline, Marjorie, Nina and Juanita.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with family to receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.
