Donald V. Matthews, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Boston, Mass., the son of Robert and Ivalene Gubian Matthews.
Donald was a 1941 graduate of Jamacia Plain High School, Boston, Mass., a life-long member of the Episcopal Church, belonging to Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, an enlisted World War II Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific, a member of the American Legion, Lysle Rishel Post #68 and worked for Baker Mfg. Co. for over 40 years, retiring in 1990 as a branch manager.
On Feb. 24, 1946, he married Louise Mohs in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors and spouses include: a son, Donald Jr. and Marilyn; a daughter, Debbie and Bob Ridpath; two grandchildren, Sara Matthews and Scott Matthews, all of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Bray.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with Reverend Michael P. Milliken officiating. Private burial will be in Lonestar Cemetery, Pretty Prairie. Friends may call 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
