Donald Dale Mitchell, 80, died Dec. 2, 2008, at Hospice House.

He was born April 6, 1928, in Dodge City, the son of George E. and Ruby E. Calbert Mitchell.

He attended Hutchinson Schools. A resident of South Hutchinson most of his life, he was a delivery truck driver for Associated Milk Producers, Inc. (AMPI), and then later worked at Hutchinson Community College.

He belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 982, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, and the Carey Park Golf Club. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II in occupation of Germany.

On Nov. 1, 1957, he married Mary Ann Willems-Elliott in Raton, N.M. She died Sept. 23, 1999. Survivors include: sons, Dick and wife Barbara Elliott, San Antonio, and Dale, Hutchinson; daughters, Jan Long, and husband Ron, Hutchinson, Gale DeGroot and husband Frank, Hutchinson, Dawn Main, South Hutchinson, and Dana Shimel and husband James, Hutchinson; brothers, Cecil, Arlington, and Dennis, Las Vegas, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and five sisters.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday Dec. 5, 2008, in North Inman Cemetery, with Pastor Nancy Proffitt presiding, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or Hospice and Home Care of Reno County, in care of the funeral home.
