Donald Eugene Smith, 82, of Hutchinson, died November 15, 2020, at his home.  He was born June 6, 1938, in Hutchinson, to Willard Louis and Pauline Gondolia (Young) Smith.

Donald worked as a custodian at Prairie Hills Middle School, Hutchinson, and Hutchinson Community College.  He served in the United States Army and the United States Navy.  Donald was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Hutchinson.  He enjoyed singing anywhere, especially for his church.

On October 31, 1960, Donald married Betty Jeane Kitterman, in Newton.  They shared over 48 years of marriage, prior to her death on March 3, 2009.

He is survived by: children, Donna Lee Chase of Nickerson, Richard Lee (Patricia) Smith of Hutchinson, and Jan Patrick of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by:  his parents; wife, Betty Smith; sister, Louise Goodwin; and brother, Lee Roy Smith.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020, at New Hope Baptist Church, 4815 E. 4 ^th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Brian D. Lee presiding. Masks are required for this service.

Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Guard to begin the service.
