Donald R. Taylor, 87, died Oct. 15, 2009 at St. Francis Via Christi, Wichita. He was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Stafford, the son of Joseph and Wilma Strong Taylor.
He retired from the Union Labor Temple in 1985 after 35 years of service. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Second Class. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68.
On Sept. 13, 1958, he married Thelma McDonald. She died July 12, 1991. Survivors include: daughters, Roberta Evans, Hutchinson, and JoAnn Vine, Larned; son, Bruce Taylor, Hutchinson; sister, Geneva Chapman, Kinsley; brother, Bob Taylor, Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Donna Ray Pina and Carrie Lynn Henricks; two brothers, Carl and Charles Taylor; and two sisters Mary Callahan and Celia Adams.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Fairlawn Burial Park, with Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Elliott Mortuary.
