Donald R. “Don” Tolbert, 61, died unexpectedly May 7, 2026, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born December 3, 1964, in Hutchinson, to Paul “PJ” and Alfreda “Frieda” (Young) Tolbert.
Don graduated from Hutchinson High School and became certified in Masonry and Carpentry at Hutchinson Community College. He was well known as “Mr. Sidewalk”, due to his 30-year business in sidewalk repair and concrete work. Recently, he worked for the City of Hutchinson in the Water Department.
Don was a hardworking, Christian man who loved God. He was a great dad who loved to spend time with his children and his grandbaby. Don particularly enjoyed mornings and the solitude of fishing. He had a special interest in motor vehicles and possibly had “too many”. Don had new, old, and even fancy vehicles, that brought joy to him.
In 2006, Don and Willette “Lett” Miller entered into a partnership. They shared 20 years together before his death.
Don is survived by: mother, Frieda Tolbert of Fort Worth, TX; fiancé, Lett Miller of the home; children, Devin (Haley) Tolbert of Glenn Heights, TX, Austin Tolbert of Austin, TX, LaTasha and Chaliese Scales of Dallas, TX; beloved grandbaby, Oliver Tolbert of Glenn Heights, TX; and siblings, Mack Tolbert of Hutchinson, Paul (Rhonda) Tolbert of Wichita, and Neater (Mack) Tolbert of Fort Worth, TX.
He was preceded in death by his father and nephew, Andrew Tolbert.
Funeral service will be 9 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Andy Addis officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday May 13, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Donald Tolbert Memorial Fund. To benefit the Donald Tolbert Memorial Fund, please make check payable to Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St. Hutchinson, KS 67501.
