Donna Lee Allen, 84, died October 15, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born January 4, 1932, in Winfield, to Elmore Wiley and Elva (Berry) Johnson.
Donna graduated from Winfield High School, Sterling College (with a bachelor's degree in education), and received her master's degree in reading from Wichita State University. She taught reading at the elementary and middle school level in Hutchinson, Chignik, Alaska, and Hutchinson Community College. Donna volunteered at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, the United States Forest Service in Montana, and enjoyed music, the outdoors, flowers, watching birds, and especially her grandchildren. She was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
On August 19, 1949, she married Olin Fred Allen in Winfield. He died December 13, 2005.
Survivors include: sons, Michael Fred Allen and wife Edith of Riverside, California, Walter Elmore Allen and wife Diana of Bozeman, Montana; grandchildren, Megan, Linsey, and Amy; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Jerry Johnson and wife Beverly of Winfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. today, Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 700 E. 25th Avenue, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dr. Dixie Voss Anders officiating. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Maple City Cemetery, Maple City, with the Rev. Angela Madden officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. The casket will remain closed.
