Obituary

Donna Jean Bogner, 82, died March 12, 2012, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Henry J. and Edna (Adrian) Block.

She graduated from Haven High School in 1948 and later received her Ph.D. in Chemistry.

She was a school teacher, teaching school at Yoder Grade School, Central Jr. High, Hutchinson High School and Wichita State University. Donna was a science scholar, who published via her own company many chemistry school books for grade school and high school, and continued to work on many projects, with NASA, JPL, and others, plus McRel Publications, where she wrote and edited science books at the university level. Donna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Kansas National Education Association, and had served as treasurer for the Kansas Association of Teachers of Science. She also sat on the grant and scholarship boards of many prestigious universities across the nation.

On Sept. 14, 1951, she married Vernon Gene Bogner Sr., in Hutchinson. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Vernon Gene Bogner Jr. of Hutchinson and James L. Bogner and wife Karilynn of Burrton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tama Sue and a sister, Lavonne Blanchard.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and through the service on Monday. Burial will follow in Valley Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Victory in the Valley, Hospitality Center at Via Christi or Hospice of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
