Donna Joan 'Jody' King, 69, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012. She was born in Ft. Scott, on Oct. 1, 1942, the daughter of Clarence and Emma May Gillham Gardner. She was a homemaker. Her former husbands were Bob Powell and Douglas W. Payne.
On Nov. 26, 1984, she married Kenneth K. King in Hutchinson. He survives. Other survivors include: her children, Andy Gardner, Nickerson; Donna Bugner and husband Allen, Nickerson; David Gardner, Hutchinson; Debbie Thurman, Lyons; Sharon Gronwick, John Powell and wife Laurie, Jeff Payne, all of Nickerson; step-children, Virginia Johnson and husband Sameh, Cairo, Egypt; Douglas C. Payne and wife Robin, Checotah, Oklahoma; a brother, Roy Gardner, Spring Creek, Nevada; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepdaughter, Mandy Payne; two grandsons; five siblings, Virgil Smith, Gladys Mealman, Wanna Lou Eldridge, Willa Jean Greenwell and Robert Gardner.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Nickerson, with Pastor Mike D. McLemore officiating. Burial will be in Wildmead Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial gifts may be made to Aplastic Anemia Foundation, in care of the mortuary.
