Donna May Pyle, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012. She was born at Kingston, Mo., Nov. 10, 1929, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys Robertson Bower.
She was a 1947 graduate of Stanley Rural High School and a 1951 graduate of the University of Kansas. Upon graduating from KU, she worked as a Spanish, Portuguese and English translator for Butler Manufacturing in Kansas City, Mo. She became a homemaker when her first child was born.
On Sept. 6, 1953, she married George W. Pyle in Kansas City, Mo. He died Jan. 1, 2004.
She is survived by their children: George B. (Rebecca) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Eric (Sachiko) of Hiroshima, Japan, Christopher (Claudia) of Dodge City, Mary Lynn Baker (Ken) of Hutchinson; a sister, Margaret Jones of Sabetha; six grandchildren, Graham Born of Buffalo, N.Y., MacGeorge Pyle of Salt Lake City, Utah, Emilyjane Pyle, Alice Pyle, George H. Pyle, all three of Dodge City, and Alexander Baker of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Bower; and a sister, Betty Mayberry.
Mrs. Pyle's service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Elliott Chapel, with Christopher Pyle officiating. Burial will be in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. The casket will remain closed. A register book will be available to sign from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Miller Scholarship Hall at the University of Kansas, in care of the mortuary.
