Donnis Lorene Duwe, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012. She was a resident of Truman Lakewood Care Center in Kansas City, Mo. Donnis was born in Harper, Kan. July 10, 1924, the daughter of Albert and Frances Babcock Dietz.
She graduated from Harper High School in 1942, attended Wichita State University and graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1962. Donnis was an elementary school teacher in Harper County, Abilene, Texas and Reno County.
On Aug. 20, 1948, she married Phillip R. Duwe in Harper County He died May 18, 2004.
She is survived by: two daughters and their spouses, Marla and Richard Layman of Broomfield, Colo., Rita and Mike Bergen of Lee's Summit, Mo.; a brother, Dalton Dietz of Ft. Smith, Ark.; two sisters, Maurita Dietz of Wichita Falls, Texas, Dortha Heyen of Stafford; five grandchildren, Nathan and Rachel Bergen, Andrew Bergen, Abigail and Jesus Michael Butler, Annika Bergen, Ty Layman; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bergen. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Maurice and Kenneth.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Prairie Rose Chapel, Anthony, with Mike Bergen officiating. Burial will be in Freeport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
