Doris E. Kennedy, 102, died Oct. 24, 2016, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers. She was born Jan. 27, 1914, in Chase, to Roy O. and Viola N. (Haxton) Sharpe.

Doris graduated from Chase High School in 1932 and Sterling College in 1938. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Doris was an elementary school teacher for Chase and Russell for 20 years.

On Aug. 13, 1938, she married Alvin R. Kennedy in Hutchinson. He died June 24, 1984.

Doris is survived by: children, Beverly Gatewood and husband John of Duncan, OK, Sheryl Lind and husband Wayne of Houston, Texas, Howard Kennedy and wife Judy of Telluride, CO; brother, Don Sharpe of Tulsa, OK; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents and five brothers, Dean, Bill, Harold, Steve and Jim Sharpe.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside service will be held at a later date in Springdale Cemetery, Chase. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today until service time at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
