Doris O. Stewart, 93, died June 4, 2011. She was born Feb. 23, 1918, at Tyrone, Okla., the daughter of Lewis and Jessie Grant Landess.

Her children fondly remembered her as a wonderful homemaker, fabulous cook, a devoted mother and very dear to her grandchildren. Doris was a graduate of Elkhart High School and PAMC College, Goodwill, Oklahoma. She taught in a one-room elementary school in Morton County before her marriage and was a proofreader for Tri State News, Elkhart. She was a member of Union Valley Bible Church, active in League of Women Voters, Hutchinson, and had taught elementary Sunday School at Temple Baptist Church.

On Sept. 29, 1946, she married William A. "Bill" Stewart in Wichita. He died Nov. 12, 1998.

She is survived by their children and spouses; DeAnna George, Hutchinson, William II and Tammy, Lewisville, Texas, Sally and Tony Wonsetler, Hutchinson, Becky and Ray Taylor, Viola, the Rev. Jonathan J. Stewart and Laralita, Arlington, Texas; a brother, Fred Landess, Elkhart; seven grandchildren, Brooke and John Browning, Hannah and Chris Sievers, Whitney and Caleb Kruckenberg, Clayton Wonsetler, Jonathan II and Erin Stewart, Katie and John Doornbos, Jerushah Stewart; a great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Sievers; her closest and dearest friend, Verna Markham, Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Henry Landess; three sisters, Suzie Brown, Carnnie Murray and Ann Triplett.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Jonathan J. Stewart and Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Calling hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Crown Southwest/Norris Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas.
