Obituary

Dorothy R. Fontron, 102, died March 3, 2012, at Hester Care Center at Wesley Towers.

She was born June 5, 1909, in Hutchinson, the daughter of William Scott and Dorotha Strohmeyer Randles.

She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1926. Following high school, she took classes at Adele Hale Business College and worked at Central State Bank.


On Jan. 17, 1930, she married Leo W. Stockham. He died Sept. 14, 1938. On April 10, 1946, she married John F. Fontron. He died Jan. 25, 1982.

Dorothy was a resident of Hutchinson all of her life except for 11 years when she and her husband, Judge John F. Fontron, lived in Topeka, KS, while he served as a Justice of the Kansas Supreme Court. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter BY of P.E.O., and the Reno County Historical Society. She was a supporter and active volunteer for many community organizations, including the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, the Dillon Nature Center, Hutchinson Symphony, Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson Art Center and the Friends of the Library.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Eugene, Ralph and Richard Randles.

Survivors include: a son, Leo W. Stockham, Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Carol Murray and her husband, Max, Hutchinson, and Beth Fager and her husband, Duane, Topeka. She has nine grandchildren, their spouses and 27 great-grandchildren.

Private family graveside services were held at the Fairlawn Mausoleum.

Memorial service will be Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, in Hutchinson. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Rhaesa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
