Dorothy M. Lay, 96, of Hutchinson, died November 24, 2011, at Good Samaritan Center.
She was born November 21, 1915, at La Crosse, the daughter of John George and Elizabeth Westermeyer Healzer.
She graduated from Plainview Academy High School, Redfield, South Dakota in 1934 and from Hinsdale School of Nursing, Hinsdale, Illinois in 1940. She was a homemaker and worked for 36 years as a registered nurse, working both at the former St. Elizabeth Hospital and Grace Hospital, as a private duty nurse. She retired in 1980. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hutchinson.
Dorothy married Vernon L. Lay, her husband of 70 years, on April 8, 1941 in Great Bend. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Dr. Charles L. Lay and wife Judith, Champaign, Ill., and Glenn P. Lay and companion Debbie Ash, Hutchinson; two daughters, Karen L. Gonzales, Denver, Colo., and Ruth Ann Lay, Wichita; 6 grandchildren, Wade Lay, Joe Gonzales, Amy Stefanovic, Heather Gudgel, Tiffany Chavez, and Dee Lynn Krehbiel; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 7 brothers, 3 sisters, a granddaughter, Michelle Towne, and a great-grandson, Wade Lay, Jr.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. A register book may be signed at Elliott Mortuary on Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., as the casket will be closed.
