Obituary

Dorris Evelyn Sanders, 94, died Jan. 5, 2008, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson, after a short battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 12, 1913, in Belpre, the daughter of Harry T. and Farnia A. "Fannie" Sette Hamler. She graduated in 1931 from Hutchinson High School, attended Salt City Business College, and graduated in 1940 from Grace Hospital School of Nursing.

A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a registered nurse at Grace Hospital, serving as assistant surgery supervisor.

She was of the Methodist faith.

On Aug. 22, 1943, she married Fred N. Sanders in Hutchinson. He died April 11, 1969.

Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth A., Berryton, and Mark E., Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Merrill L. Sanders, McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Carolyn J. Davies, and Genevieve M. Turner, both of Hutchinson, and Harriett M. Eells, Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Marjorie Vermillion, Frances Wilson, Eleanor Justus, and Lucille Hamler.

Graveside service will be Monday, January 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell presiding. There will be no visitation. The casket will be closed.

Memorials may be sent to the Hutchinson Public Library, or the Girl Scout Wheatbelt Council, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
