Douglas Eugene "Gene" Johnson, 74, died Aug. 16, 2015, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born March 16, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Jesse and Aldine (Truesdell) Johnson.
In 1961, he graduated from Hutchinson Community College. Gene earned his bachelor's degree in 1964 and later his Master's degree of Science in 1978, both at Pittsburg State University. Gene was a vocational instructor for the Central Kansas Vo-Tech School, teaching at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility for 30 years before retiring in 1998. One of his passions in life was old cars and hot rods.
He married Rosena Richardson on June 6, 1964, in Frontenac, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include: sons, Dean Johnson and wife Karen, Dwight Johnson and wife Katie, all of Hutchinson; and three grandsons, Jesse, Cale and Coy Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
