Douglas K. Sands, 76, passed away May 19, 2014, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born May 4, 1938, in Maryville, Tenn., the son of John and Pearl Sands.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1963 as a radar control operator. As a longtime resident of the Hutchinson community, he was employed in several industries including auto repair, welding and trucking. Douglas married Patricia Ruby on June 25, 1960, in Hutchinson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Sands; son, Michael Sands and wife Sharon of Lorain, Ohio; daughter, LaDena Dosdall and husband Gerald of Wichita; siblings, Jonathan Sands, Samuel Sands, Patricia Summerford and Margaret Sands; and four grandchildren, Bethany, Lindsey, and Wesley Dosdall and Elizabeth Sands.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Believer's Tabernacle, 1701 N. Main St., Hutchinson, with Pastor Bobby Massey and Pastor John Roszel presiding. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson.
