Douglas Glen Spitler, 59, died October 20, 2019, at his home, Chestnut House, McPherson. He was born October 3, 1960, in Guymon, OK, to Ronald D. and Kay M. (Minihan) Spitler.
Doug was a resident of Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka from 1965 to 1980 and then Multi Community Diversified Services in McPherson since 1980 and was their longest living resident. He participated in the Special Olympics for over 40 years. Doug was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan and had a deep love for his country. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.
Doug is survived by: siblings, Terri Shurtleff, Wichita, Rick and Amy Spitler, Hutchinson, Joey and Sarah Keating, Russellville, AR, Rona and Todd Fitzmier, Sparks, NV, stepfather, Joe Keating, Hutchinson; nine nieces and nephews; five great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Keating.
Parish rosary will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., both at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5 th Ave., Hutchinson, with Father Michael J. Maybrier officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with the family to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to MCDS or Special Olympics, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
