Obituary

Duane L. Burns, 86, of South Hutchinson, died May 5, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 21, 1924, at Stafford, the son of Lloyd Emmett and Myrtle Lenora Minks Burns.


He was a 1942 graduate of Sylvia High School and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre. He was a farmer in the Sylvia/Plevna area for 46 years before moving to Hutchinson in 1993. After moving to Hutchinson, he worked part-time at Dillons grocery store. He later moved to South Hutchinson. He was a member of Crosspoint Church Westbrook Campus in Hutchinson.

He married Jeanette L. Shepherd on June 12, 1948, in Sylvia. She survives. Other survivors include: four sons, Larry J. Burns and wife Barbara of Scottsdale, Ariz., Donald L. Burns and David D. Burns, both of Hutchinson, and J.R. Burns and wife Jodi of Hettinger, ND; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Thelma Dunlap, Geraldine Ruzich, and Dorene Krenzin.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011, at Crosspoint Church Westbrook Campus, with Pastor Andy Addis presiding. Burial will follow in the Stafford Cemetery at Stafford. Graveside military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley, Kansas. Visitation will be Saturday 1 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, all at Elliott Mortuary.
