Dwight “Hoss” David Drake, 63, passed away September 21, 2026, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born October 11, 1962, in Hutchinson, to Darold Lloyd and Callie M. (Spencer) Drake.

Hoss dedicated much of his working life to serving his community, most recently working as a crew chief for Reno County Public Works, where he formed many lasting friendships and treasured the friendships he made throughout the years.

Hoss enjoyed spending his free time doing the things he loved most, including dirt track racing, fishing, and watching football. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, proudly known as “HD on an HD” by his friends, a nickname that became a fitting part of who he was.

On March 31, 2012, he married Wendy Dawn Barkley, in Hutchinson. They shared over 14 years of marriage.

Hoss is survived by: his wife, Wendy Drake; sister, Yvonne (Troy) Hamby; nephew, Jason (Megan) Hamby; stepchildren, Briana (Brian) Barkley, Dallas (Amber) Stephens, Blade (Kiara) Mattox, and Deyton Mattox; grandchildren, Adondre Oneal, Caselon Baird, Braxton, Ella, and Emmett Stephens, and Roman Mattox; nieces and nephews, Maddison, Mason, Jaxson, and Jannason Hamby; great-niece, Addalea Grace; and his brothers- in-laws, Jim (Linda) Barkley, Robert Barkley, John (Connie) Barkley, Craig (Mary) Barkley, and David (Teresa) Barkley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A public visitation will take place Monday, September 28, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present to receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary chapel. Cremation will follow after visitation. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date, additional information to be announced.
