E. Ross Ball's Obituary
Earl Ross Ball, 82, died Nov. 11, 2006, at his home in Hutchinson.
He was born May 12, 1924 in Minneola, the son of David Earl and Mabel Elizabeth Orr Ball. He graduated from Minneola High School in 1942, attended Sterling College and graduated from Fort Hays State in 1951, and then with his master's degree in 1963. He was a school teacher and administrator in Brewster, Winona and Hoxie, and Lancaster, Calif. for 28 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a former member of the Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, Calif. and attended Park Place Christian Church, Hutchinson. He was a former member of the Brewster Lions Club, Masonic Lodge No. 348, Hoxie, was past master of the Masonic Lodge, Winona, past commander of the American Legion, Brewster, Phi Delta Kappa and the Phi Delta Kappa National Education Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Arena.
On Nov. 6, 1947, he married Blanche Crawford in Sterling. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Ron and wife Lynette, Menlo, Bob, Inman, Rick and wife Lois, Great Bend and Rex and wife Debbie, Hays; a daughter, Shari and husband Perry McCabe, Hutchinson; two brothers, Dean, Sunland, Calif. and Frank, Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Bonnie Jo Moller, Oxnard, Calif; grandchildren, Eric and Daphne McCabe, Matt and Trissa McCabe, David Ball, Thomas Ross Ball, Jason Ross Ball, Kristen and Mark Wade, Kayla and Kyle Kinderknecht, Melissa Elizabeth and Lee Counsell, Jacque Ball, Jamie Ball and Jenna Ball; great grandchildren, Jackson McCabe, Nick McCabe, Cale McCabe, Mace McCabe, Ethan Earl Ball-Counsell and Gene Counsell. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Dawson and Grace Jones and several nephews and nieces.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Park Place Christian Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Kim Biery presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Inurnment will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Sterling Cemetery, Sterling with military graveside rites conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.
Memorials may be sent to Sterling College Athletic Department, American Lung Association or Hospice of Reno County, all in care of the funeral home.
