Obituary

Earl V. Burris Sr., 83, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita. He was born Jan. 3, 1931, Wenatchee, Wash., the son of Vern and Helen Main Burris.

He was a 1951, graduate of Larned High School, had served in the Army National Guard, a former member of the Hutchinson Optimist Club, American Lysle Rishel Post #68 and Loyal Order of Moose #982. Earl was a printer for the Hutchinson News for 25 years retiring in 1978, he then purchased Standard Press that he owned and operated until 2011.

On July 27, 1971 he married Sarah F. Thaxton Meadows in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors and their spouses include: sons, Earl Burris Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, and Tom Burris of Nickerson; a daughter, Pamela Holderness of Lee's Summit, Mo.; stepchildren, Mark and June Meadows of Douglas, John and Diane Meadows of Yoder, Debbie and David Trotter of Hutchinson, and Larry and Marcia Meadows of South Hutchinson; brothers, Larry of Bucklin, John of Derby, and Frank of Larned; sisters, Joan Dunlap of Great Bend, Joyce Salmons of Omaha, Neb., and Florence Hall of Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marjory Bruce and an infant brother, James.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with W. Keith Shrum presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
