Obituary

Earl Dean Schmucker, 80, died Sunday, May 3, 2015. He was born July 13, 1934, in Hutchinson, the son of Ruben and Jimmie (Hammonds) Schmucker.

He was a 1952 graduate of Reno County High School, Nickerson, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Abbyville Community Church, a Huntsville 4-H Club leader, a member of Kansas Pork Producers and a Reno County Fair Board member. Earl Dean was a farmer, carpenter, a prison supervisor of the wood shop at El Dorado and a train engineer at the Kansas and Iowa State Fair Railroads.

On Nov. 16, 1956, he married Phyllis Ruth Stalcup in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: their children and spouses, Ken (Michelle) of Hutchinson, Bryan (Becky) of Inman, and Brenda (Bill) Ebeling of Buhler; two brothers, Ray (Caroline) of Plevna, and Harlan (Madeline) of Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Engelland of Sterling; six grandchildren, Jonathan Schmucker, Jordan Schmucker, Aaron (Jessica) Schmucker, Apryl Schmucker, Brooke (Matt) Harper, and Bailey (Logan) Stoss; and three great-grandchildren, Brahnan Schmucker, Natalie and Alex Harper. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Travis Paul Harper; and a brother-in-law, Kermit Engelland.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Dale Levering and Jimie-Ray Mead presiding. Burial with military honors will be conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard in Abbyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church or Reno County Cancer Council, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
