ARLINGTON - Edith M. Day, 86, died June 12, 2007, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 26, 1921, northwest of Langdon, the daughter of Harry Daniel and Goldie Myrtle Powell Mitchell.
She attended schools in Sylvia, Arlington and had graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1939. She also attended Salt City Business College. A resident of Reno County most of her life, she was a farm wife in the Langdon community for 28 years, also working for Davenport Auction and Realty. She retired to Arlington in 1979 and owned Arlington Realty.
She belonged to Arlington United Methodist Church, was a member of Arlington Circle and DIYFCE, all in Arlington. She was also a Langdon 4-H Club leader and a member of the Reno County Extension Council.
On April 8, 1939, she married Gene Day in Alva, Okla. He died Aug. 25, 2000.
Survivors include: a son, Russell and wife, Ann, Arlington; a daughter, Peggy Wiard, Arlington; three grandchildren, Brenda Milner, Kansas City, Mo., Robin Fitzgerald, Ocean Springs, Miss., and Katrina Wiard-Stussy and husband, Larry, Haven; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Peter Eugene Day; four brothers, Wilbur "Red," Arthur, George and Charles "Doc" Mitchell; and four sisters, Mildred Bible, Alice Popejoy, Frances Jones and Opal Gardner.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dennis Wallace presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas or the donor's choice, both in care of the mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
