Obituary

Edna Marie Lee, 95, died at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center May 2, 2013. She was born July 9, 1917, in Centralia, Kan., the daughter of Karl and Edna Gaston.

She graduated with high honors from Kansas State University and married Dwight Raymond Lee in 1942, who died March 15, 1980.
Edna, known to many friends and family as Edie, was filled with compassion and empathy for others. Edie led a full and busy life. She taught junior high and high school English and journalism classes for many years prior to retirement. After retiring she became the editor of Kanhistique, a monthly publication dedicated to Kansas history and antiques. She also served as a state board member of the Kansas State Historical Society.

Edie was an avid reader of newspapers, weekly national publications and the occasional mystery novel. She loved traveling and did so extensively throughout North America and twice to Europe. Antiques were a life-long passion and her collection of beautiful glass extensive. She also closely followed the fortunes of Kansas basketball teams - be it KSU, KU or WSU. She rejoiced in their triumphs and was dismayed for them in defeat.

Edie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dwight and three siblings, Alice, Barbara and brother Karl.

Survivors include: two sons, Philip and Charles; grandchildren, Maggie, Abby and Brian; cherished daughter-in-law, Diane; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell Knauss presiding. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Florence Cemetery, Florence, Kan.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to The First Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson, the Dwight and Raymond Lee Scholarship Fund at Kansas State University, or any wildlife or animal shelter organizations would be an appropriate and appreciated way to celebrate her loving memory.
