Obituary

ARLINGTON - Edna Leiker Tope passed away Dec. 31, 2011, at the Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. She had resided at the home since 2001.

Edna Clare Tope was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Emmeram, Kansas. She was one of 11 children born to Adam J. and Anna A. (Scheck) Windholz.

In January 1946, she married Cely A. Leiker in Munjor, Kansas and moved to Hutchinson. He owned Leiker's Auto Service until his death in 1967. In May 1969, she married Oscar O. Tope in Hutchinson and moved to Arlington. Oscar Tope died in 2007.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2550.

Survivors are daughters: Donna Sauer (Fred), Wichita, Kansas; Pat Thayer (Ed), Arlington, Kansas; and Jo Tope-Breeding (Ernie), Dodge City. Other survivors include: two sisters, Georgie Leiker, Mulvane and Lioba Schmidt, Hutchinson; six granddaughters; one grandson; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides both husbands, she was preceded in death by son, Ron Tope and eight brothers and sisters.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012, in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, with Father Brian Nelson officiating. Rosary will be recited by Father Sean O'Shea at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and friends may visit with the family following the rosary until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe or Prairie Sunset Home, in care of Elliott Mortuary.
