Wall Hendershot

Edna F. Wall Hendershot, 99, of Hutchinson, died May 28, 2017, at Hester Care Center at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. She was born July 4, 1917, in Guymon, OK, the daughter of Charley A. and Lucy (Blanchard) Wall.
She grew up in Hutchinson, and graduated in 1935 from Hutchinson High School and in 1937 from Hutchinson Junior College with a teaching certificate. Edna taught elementary school in South Hutchinson from 1937-1941 and then substituted in Harper County after marrying Roger Hendershot. She and Roger lived in Newton, Anthony, and Hays due to his work with Kansas State Extension. While living in Anthony, she served on the city library board as a chairman, was active with PTA, 4-H, and Boy and Girl Scouts. While living in Hays, she co-sponsored the establishment of the Clovia Scholarship House at Fort Hays State University and was named an honorary member of the Clovia group. Upon Roger's retirement in 1982, they returned to Hutchinson to live. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Together Sunday School Class, and VIP at Trinity United Methodist Church, Reno County Historical Society, Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary and P.E.O. Chapter D.
On May 24, 1941, Edna married Roger Lyman Hendershot in South Hutchinson. He died June 20, 1991. Survivors include: children, Dennis Hendershot and wife Sharon of Overland Park, Judith Hendershot Hall of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Todd Hendershot and wife Angela of Shawnee, and Michelle Wilson and husband Mark of Overland Park; great-grandchildren, Macy and Cade Wilson, Grace Hendershot, A.J. and Jack Makkyla; sisters-in-law, Winifred Hendershot, Glenna Hendershot, and Beverly Hendershot; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Ethel Wall; and son-in-law, Richard Hall.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 17th and Main, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Elmer. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
