Edward D. "Ed" Kafka, 78, died Oct. 28, 2009, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis, Wichita. He was born Jan. 27, 1931, in rural Rice County, the son of Edward and Bessie Truhler Kafka.
He was a 1948 graduate of Lyons High School, Lyons. A resident of Hutchinson for the past 57 years, he owned and operated Kafka Home Remodeling, and after retirement owned Ed's Used Furniture.
He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F.& A.M., Midian Shrine and Reno County Scooter Patrol.
On July 9, 1950, he married Donna McCoy. They later divorced. On Nov. 12, 1982, he married Pat Evans in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: sons, Scott, Burrton, and Robert A., Hutchinson; daughter, Kristine Regier and husband Dennis, Hutchinson; stepsons, Barry Evans and wife Cindy, Tulsa, Okla., and Rick Evans and wife Taren, Olathe; stepdaughter, Shari Lusk and husband John, San Mateo, Calif.; brother, Vernon and wife Joyce, Wichita; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, a son, James, on Aug. 5, 1980, and a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Paige Regier.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 3, 2009, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Tim Soule presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday at the mortuary. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Masonic services conducted by Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M.
