Edward "Ed" Darin Filbert's Obituary
Edward D. "Ed" Filbert, 79, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 24, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born April 30, 1931, near Brownell, Kan. in Ness County, to Alexander and Katharine Gross Filbert.
He was a Hutchinson resident since 1969, moving here from Dighton, where he had coached and taught school. He had previously taught and coached at Bazine High School. He graduated from Bazine High School in 1948 and Fort Hays State University with a Bachelors Degree and later a Masters Degree. He was a counselor at Nickerson High School, and after retiring in 1982, he worked as a cattle buyer. He attended the United Methodist Church when they lived in Bazine. He was a former member of the Bazine Lion's Club and the Kansas-National Educational Association. He served in the United States Air Force (he was named "Airman of the Year" in 1955 at March AFB, Riverside, Calif. in 1955).
He married Ruth A. Hair June 18, 1955, in Ness City, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include: sons, David A. Filbert (Janet) of Andover, Kan. and Daniel A. Filbert (Becky) of Macksville, Kan.; brother, Duane Filbert (Cora Lee) of Hays, Kan.; sisters, Mary Ann Yaeger (Gerald) of Napa, Calif. and Judy Boor of Irwin, Penn.; and four grandchildren, Andrew Filbert, Matthew Filbert, Seth Filbert, and Sophie Filbert. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Graveside Service 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Ness City Cemetery, Ness City, with Chaplin Bob Phipps officiating.
Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in Ness City Cemetery, Ness City. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. Family will received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to ALS Association, Keith Worthington Chapter sent in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson.
