Obituary

Elda Marie Matous, 81, died March 4, 2015, at her home in Wichita. She loved LIFE, her family and her many, many friends! She was born June 22, 1933, in Maize, to Charles and Nora (Loudermilk) Thomison.

Elda graduated from Wichita North High School in 1951. She later attended Hutchinson Community College, Sterling College and Wichita State University where she received her Master's in Education. She was grateful to be a 5th and 6th grade teacher for 29 years at Prosperity Elementary School in the Buhler District, where she was able to touch and influence many lives. She was a dedicated educator and involved in NEA, KNEA, and Buhler NEA. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, Neighborhood Director and Scout Camp Director for three years. She and John were also Camp Directors at Cheley Colorado (Summer) Camps for 10 years. Elda was a member of Park Place Christian Church.

On March 24, 1951, she married John Matous in Wichita. He survives.

Other survivors include: children, Linda Mathur and husband Sach, Ken Matous and wife Ruth, and Judy Hogan and husband David, all of Wichita; grandchildren, Brett Hogan and wife Alex, Lindsay Hogan, Kendall Schellhorn and husband Chip, and Kris Mathur; sisters, Dean Raymond of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Cecile Shoemaker of Wichita; and brother, Charles R. Thomison of Springfield, MO.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Lee Edward Thomison.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, Hutchinson, with Pastor Lynn Taylor officiating. Friends may sign the book from Sunday through Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, or HCC Endowment Association-Matous Scholarship Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, Ks 67501.
