NICKERSON – Elizabeth Clara Huffman, 90, died April 10, 2015, after a long illness. She was born June 20, 1924, in Marienthal, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Berning Kohl.
She graduated from Wichita County Grade School in Marienthal as Salutatorian in 1938, and Andrew Sabine Junior High School in Garden City in 1941. She was a housewife who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson and was a member, officer, and president of Church Women United.
On May 1, 1944, she married Robert D. Huffman in Scott City. He preceded her in death Jan. 2, 2011. They lived in Grigston until January 1958, then moved to Nickerson.
She is survived by: four sons, Frank, Nickerson, James and Kathy, and Joe and Leslie, all of Hutchinson, and Thomas, Burrton; daughters, Mary Blachford, Alden, Jean and Mike Ober, Cottonwood, Ariz., Delores Huffman, Skiatook, Okla., Vera and John Frye, Lyons, and Barb and Lou Winterfield, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; sisters, Marie Baker, Marienthal, and Tillie Hill, Lyman, Neb.; brother, John Kohl, Marienthal; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Anna, and Johanna (twins), and Joanna, and a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Frye.
Parish rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, with Father Ned J. Blick officiating, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. Burial will be in Wildmead Cemetery in Nickerson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
