Obituary

Elsie Wurm Hayes, 94, a homemaker, died Monday, February 21, 2011 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kansas.

She was born January 30, 1917 on a farm near Traer, Kansas. Elsie married Dorce Hayes on April 12, 1938 in Oberlin, Kansas.

They had three children; Jay Dee, Dixie and Rick. The family moved to Hutchinson in 1946 and established Hayes Sight and Sound in 1955.

Elsie enjoyed camping and was an avid fisherwoman. She was a member of Wally Byam Caravan Club, Oberlin Chapter of Eastern Star and Social Order of Beauceant. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, collecting tea cups and geneology.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorce, son, Jay Dee, parents, George J. and Elizabeth Hoffbauer Wurm, two sisters, Helen Wurm and Mary Leitner, three brothers, Ewald "Swede," Herman and Robert Wurm.

Survivors include a daughter; Dixie, a son; Rick, two daughters in law; Alice Jane and Debra, two grandsons Darin and wife Sara, Devon and wife Stacy, seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011, at Elliott Chapel with Rev. Sara Davis Blodgett officiating. Graveside service and interment will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 in Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin, Kansas with Lay Pastor Dennis Brown officiating. Her memorial book will be available 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Reno County or Cancer Council of Reno County in care of the mortuary.
