Obituary

Elton Conrad Getz, 87, died July 30, 2007, at Wesley Towers Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1919, in Studley, the son of Conrad Harmon and Lola Hazel Cunningham Getz. He was a Hutchinson resident since 1966, growing up in Tasco. He graduated in 1932 from Hoxie. He retired from sales in 1990 after 25 years with Paul Brooker Sales, Wichita. He had worked for his uncle Ervin's General Merchandise Store as early as the age of five. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the U.S.S. New Mexico.

He belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Masonic Lodge for 46 years and the American Legion for 50 years, both of Natoma.

On March 4, 1949, he married Etta LoRene Teel in Hoxie. She died Dec. 8, 2005.

Survivors include: a son, Kerry and wife, Ramona, Hutchinson; a sister, Vida Hill, Wichita; two grandchildren, Tammara Huddleston and husband, Dean, and Annie Getz; and a great-grandson, Dean Kerry Huddleston.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold; an infant sister, Oma Nelda Getz, and a sister, Fletta Omega Long.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Bishop Robert Thomas presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military graveside rites conducted by U.S. Naval Honor Guard, Wichita.
