Elva Kentfield, 91, died April 2, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 7, 1922, the daughter of Cornelius J. and Mary (Buller) Schmidt. She graduated from Buhler High School in 1941.
On Sept. 18, 1945, she married Edgar J. Kentfield, a Navy sailor, in Hutchinson. For the next 20 years she faithfully followed Edgar with his Navy assignments around the world. They were stationed in the Philippines, Hawaii and San Diego, then 13 more years with the American Red Cross, stationed at Italy, San Francisco, Seattle, New Mexico, Puerto Rico and back to Sacramento. She was a member of P.E.O. and a former president of many of the chapters she served.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years. Other survivors include: son, Timothy A. Kentfield of Chaska, Minn.; sister, Laurene Reimer; brothers, Edwin J. Schmidt and wife Erma, and Harlo Schmidt and wife Glennis, all of Buhler; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Ronald Eugene Kentfield, and two brothers, Marvin and Wilbur Schmidt.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jeanine I. Rishel presiding. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
