Erma Joyce Marker, 78, joined our Lord in Heaven on Nov. 20, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Garden City, Kan., the daughter of Christian William Henry and Clara Jane (Hagerman) Giesaking.
She attended schools in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School in 1951 and attended Garden City Community College. Erma worked as a secretary for Hugoton Production Co., Burtis Motor Co., Production Credit Association and for USD #457 as business office coordinator for 33 years. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church until 2002 and after that Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Kan. She was a member of LWML and served as an officer. She also sang in the church choir during her younger high school years. She was a member of AEOP, (Association of Education Office Personnel), and held offices on both the local and state levels.
On July 16, 1965, she married Chester "Bud" Marker in Garden City, Kan. He survives.
Other survivors include: four children, Diana Lyons and husband Ralph, Jeff Marker and wife LeeAnn, Vickie Elsey and husband Virgil, all of Hutchinson, and John Marker and wife Michelle of Lafayette, La.; a brother, Melvin Giesaking; a sister, Thelma Traugott; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: a son, Rodney Marker; two brothers, Lawrence and Charles Giesaking; and a sister, Wilma Staub.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Reverend Chad Trunkhill presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be made to the Erma Marker Memorial Fund, to be used for her daughter, Vickie Elsey's medical expenses related to her kidney disease, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
