Ernest H. "Ernie" Emery, 80, died May 5, 2016, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 11, 1936, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, to William and Annie (Oatley) Emery.

Ernie was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, since moving to Hutchinson over 50 years ago. After becoming a Christian at age 24, he faithfully served the Lord by teaching Sunday School and joyfully singing in the church choir. Ernie loved people and never knew a stranger. He loved inviting friends and acquaintances to his home. Most of all, Ernie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling with his wife and lifelong friends. Ernie retired after 30 years as a newspaper pressman for the Hutchinson News. He continued to enjoy weekly coffee with his fellow retirees from The News.

Survivors include: his wife of over 60 years, Joanne (Hess) Emery; sons, Ron Emery and wife Cathy of Hutchinson, James Emery and wife Tanya of Buhler; sons-in-law, Tim Gregory of Springfield, Mo., Frederick Moran of Wichita; grandchildren, Andrea Gregory, Aaron Gregory and wife Morgan, Joanna Gregory, Kyle Emery and wife Emily, Katie Yoder and husband Aaron, Brad Emery and wife Courtney, Shannon Emery, Daniel Moran, Claudia Moran; and great-grandchildren, Asher Gregory, Titus Ernest Emery, and Carlie Jones. He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughters, Elaine Gregory and Sherry Moran; sister, Marianna Glenn; and brothers, Albert, George, and Edwin Emery.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at First Southern Baptist Church, 1201 E. 23rd, Hutchinson, with Dr. Roy Jaye and Pastor Kyle Emery officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.
