WICHITA - Essie L. Daray, 92, died Nov. 21, 2006, at Kansas Masonic Home, Wichita.
She was born June 30, 1914, in Trinity, Texas, the daughter of William Robert and Tennessee C. "Tinnie" Young Lewis. She was a graduate of Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. A resident of Wichita, formerly of Hutchinson from 1979 to 1997, she was a homemaker.
She formerly belonged to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson. She was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Hutchinson and a volunteer for Female Veterans of World War II at the VA Hospital, Wichita. She served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, she was a mechanic and air craft inspector.
On Sept. 3, 1947, she married Emil F. Daray in Chicago. He died in Sept. 1975.
Survivors include: a son, Ronald Daray and his wife, Dawn, Wichita; a daughter, Linda McGowen and her husband, Don, Roach, Mo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lewis; and two sisters, Billie and Bessie.
A musical celebration will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Wichita, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Erickson presiding. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. There will be no visitation.
