Estaline W. Cockerill, 87, of Hutchinson, formerly of Scott City, died June 12, 2011, at Hospice House in Hutchinson.
She was born Dec. 25, 1923, at Henderson, Neb., the daughter of Peter F. and Marie Wiebe Huebert.
She was a homemaker and farm wife, living most of her life near Grant, Neb., where she and her husband farmed. She had previously taught school in a one-room school near Grant and later moved to Calif., and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at an airplane assembly plant. After the war, she returned to Grant. She was a 1942 graduate of Perkins County High School at Grant, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She married Delmar F. Cockerill on Feb. 11, 1945, in Fresno, Calif. He died June 27, 1998.
Survivors include: a son, Dick Cockerill and wife Kim, Hutchinson; three grandsons, Trevor Cockerill and wife Kristy, Olathe, Seth Cockerill and wife Cassandra, Grant, Neb., and Casey Cockerill and wife Becky, North Platte, Neb.; two granddaughters, Meisha Jossie and husband Sam, Wichita, and Krista Moore and husband Daniel, Provo, Utah; a grandson-in-law, Lee LeVasseur, Pretty Prairie; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gary Cockerill, a grandson, Justin Cockerill, a granddaughter, Tonia LeVasseur, a brother, Warren Huebert, and two sisters, Alene Langston and Jane Lowen.
Graveside services will be held 9:30 a.m. (M.S.T.) Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Fairview Cemetery, Grant, Neb.
