Esther D. Barkman's Obituary
Esther D. Barkman, 91, died March 19, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Alva, Okla., to Harvey and Lillian Carey Jenkins.
She was a Hutchinson resident since 1929, moving here from Oklahoma. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Park Place Christian Church, Women of the Moose Hutchinson Chapter #1371 and Order of the Eastern Star Silver Leaf Chapter #464.
On April 8, 1939, she married Delmar D. Barkman. He died Aug. 3, 1992.
Survivors include: a son, Gary Barkman, Wichita; daughters, Pam Rouse, Hutchinson, and Yvonne Schwart, Olathe; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Brubaker; four brothers, Vernon, Gene, Preston and Robert; and three sisters, Addie Sparks, Myrtle McDowell and Ella Barkman.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Rev. Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
